Play therapy differs from regular play in that the therapist helps the client identify, address, and resolve his/her own problems. Our therapists use a variety of play therapy techniques, which include direct and client-centered approaches to assist their clients in dealing with issues that might be too difficult to process through traditional talk therapy.
Play therapy provides the opportunity for clients to learn ways to communicate and relate to others, appropriate ways to express feelings and adjust behavior, and develop problem-solving skills.

The goal is to empower the child with tools and strategies to choose different thoughts and behaviors, which will in turn positively impact emotions. The therapist and child work together in goal-setting and planning. These goals and plans are shared with the parents, so that parents can help track progress and support their child in making new choices.

What Our Clients Are Saying
My daughter struggled at a very young age with high level anxiety and OCD that was taking over her life, robbing her of the sweet-spirited personality she was born with. She was paralyzed with fear in many every-day situations, and spent hours crying from being overwhelmed by life. As a mom, I was at a complete loss for what to do to help her, and a few people separately recommended Elizabeth. My daughter fell in love with her immediately. Working through play, Elizabeth was able to pull her out of the anxious worries she held onto all day, eventually helping her to learn how to make her own strategies to recognize and minimize her worries.
Our daughter was following a bad crowd, lying and making choices we felt were wrong. Edla has helped our daughter figure out why she was making those choices and how she could make better ones. Edla also helped my husband and I see the thought pattern that created the choices our daughter had made. Edla helped us understand that while these "bad" choices seemed wrong to us, they were very normal and that we could also help by changing the way we were parenting. Our time with Edla has been beneficial to our daughter and to us. Edla has connected with all three of us and honestly made life fun again. The drama and worry has lessened considerably. Allowing someone else to help us through our uncertainty and heartache was the best choice we could have made. Thank you Edla!!
